Floreat Picture Hangers

Some people's jobs are to hang very expensive artwork. It sounds kind of stressful. Considering a big part of the task is putting hooks into a wall and having confidence they hold, indeed, those hanging the art would have researched who makes the best hooks.

As I'm inclined to do, I searched the web for a particular Italian-made packing tape dispenser. I found a retailer that supplies tools and packaging to art handlers, Trade Craft Supply. Among the many interesting products in their catalog that delighted me, I am especially drawn to the packaging and presentation of Floreat-Wandhaken picture hangers—Das Original!

The Floreat company has been manufacturing only picture hangers in Germany since 1920. The result of focusing on something so specific for so long is a piece of specially designed hardware that allows the nail to be hammered in at the optimal 30-degree angle. The specially ground tip of the nail lets it penetrate even the hardest surfaces, leaving a minimal, clean hole when removed.

Considering these beautifully designed hooks cost just a little under a dollar piece, it doesn't seem like a big splurge for something that will hold something far more precious for a long time. Better still, they come in a beautiful little package that looks nice in the drawer and keeps you from buying a tackle box of 300 picture hangers for $10 on Amazon that will do nothing but take up space forever.

These picture hangers are available in multiple sizes for purchase @tradecraftsupply. A pack of ten is around $7
